Privacy Policy
Your privacy is something we take seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Focusami, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and what choices you have. By using Focusami, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy; if you do not agree, please do not use the Service. This policy applies to all versions of Focusami, including the web application at focusami.com, the desktop application, and any future mobile applications.

1. Who Is Responsible for Your Data
Focusami is developed and operated by an independent developer based in India. For the purposes of data protection law, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, the developer is the data controller responsible for your personal data. If you have any questions about how your data is handled, you can reach us by email at support@focusami.com or via our website at https://www.focusami.com.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in three ways. First, information you provide directly: account information such as your email address, display name, and password (stored hashed, never in plain text), plus an optional profile picture or bio, or basic profile information shared by a third-party login such as Google; group and social activity such as group names, descriptions, your friend list, and memberships; chat messages you send within groups, stored so other members can view them; the tasks in your to-do list and goals you set before sessions; and any support correspondence you send us. Second, information generated by your use of the app: focus session data (duration, start and end time, completion, streaks, and productivity metrics); usage data such as IP address, browser and device type, operating system, pages visited, features used, time spent, and general geographic region (country or city level, not precise location); server log data including access times, referring URLs, and error reports; and information stored via cookies and local storage to keep you logged in and remember preferences. Third, information from third parties: payment confirmation details from Razorpay (described in Section 4), basic profile data from third-party sign-in providers, and anonymized or pseudonymized data shared with analytics providers.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to provide and improve the Service (session data powers your streaks and analytics, account data lets you log in and connect with friends, and aggregated anonymized usage helps us identify what to improve); to personalize your experience by remembering your preferences, themes, ambient sound choices, and history; to manage subscriptions using payment confirmation data from Razorpay and your account information; to communicate with you about your account, changes to our Terms or this policy, support responses, and — where you have opted in — product updates (we do not send marketing emails without consent and you can opt out at any time); to display advertisements to free-tier users while not in an active focus session, without sharing your name, email, or precise personal details with advertisers; to maintain safety, security, and abuse prevention by detecting fraud, spam, and Terms violations; and to comply with applicable laws, regulations, or lawful government requests.
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers beyond what is described above. We do share data in the following ways. With other users: your display name and profile picture are visible to friends and group members, your focus session activity may appear to other group members as a leaderboard or activity indicator depending on group settings, and messages you send in group chats are visible to all members of that group (private groups limit visibility to approved members). With service providers: carefully selected third parties that help us operate the Service, including our hosting and infrastructure provider, Razorpay for payment processing (a payment gateway based in India and regulated under the Payment and Settlement Systems Act, 2007 — we do not receive or store your full card number, CVV, or bank account details; we receive only payment confirmation, the last four digits of your card, your subscription status, billing date, and a transaction reference ID, and Razorpay's privacy policy is at https://razorpay.com/privacy/), email delivery providers, and analytics tools, all contractually required to protect your data and use it only on our behalf. For legal reasons: where required by law, court order, or legal process, or in good faith to protect the rights, property, or safety of Focusami, its users, or the public. In a business transfer: if Focusami is acquired, merged, or its assets transferred, with reasonable steps to ensure the receiving entity honors this policy. And with your explicit, informed consent.
5. Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account exists or as long as necessary to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, generally 30 to 60 days, except where we must retain records by law or to resolve a dispute or enforce an agreement. Focus session data and analytics may be retained in aggregated, anonymized form indefinitely for product research, because they cannot be linked back to you in that form. Chat messages you sent to group chats may persist for other group members unless the group is deleted, and we do not guarantee immediate deletion of all copies from all servers upon account deletion. Log data is typically retained for 90 days and then deleted or anonymized.
6. Security
We implement reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction, including encrypted transmission over HTTPS, password hashing, access controls limiting which personnel can access personal data, and regular review of our security practices. No method of storage or transmission over the internet is completely secure, so while we do our best we cannot guarantee absolute security; if you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at support@focusami.com. In the event of a data breach likely to result in a risk to your rights, we will notify affected users and, where required, the relevant regulatory authorities, in accordance with applicable law including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
7. Your Choices and Rights
You can update or correct your account information at any time through your settings, and delete your account from within the app settings or by emailing support@focusami.com. You can opt out of non-essential emails via the unsubscribe link in any such email, though you cannot opt out of transactional emails directly related to your account or subscription. Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies, but some features (particularly staying logged in) depend on them. Free-plan users can reduce interest-based advertising through browser or device settings or industry opt-out tools such as the Network Advertising Initiative, and the most reliable way to remove all ads is to upgrade to Premium. Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to access a summary of your personal data, correct inaccurate or incomplete data, request erasure in certain circumstances, and nominate another person to exercise these rights in the event of your death or incapacity. If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, the GDPR or equivalent law grants you rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, objection to processing based on legitimate interests, and withdrawal of consent, and you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (the ICO for UK users, or your member state's supervisory authority in the EEA). If you are a California resident, the CCPA grants you the rights to know, to delete, to opt out of sale (we do not sell personal information), and to non-discrimination for exercising these rights. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and will promptly delete such data upon verified request from a parent or guardian. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@focusami.com.
8. International Data Transfers
Focusami is operated from India. If you access the Service from outside India, your data will be transferred to and processed in India, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. For users in the EEA or UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards for international transfers where required, including standard contractual clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms recognized under GDPR or UK data protection law. By using Focusami, you acknowledge that your data may be processed in India and consent to such transfer and processing.
9. Third-Party Links and Services
Focusami may contain links to third-party websites, services, or social platforms — for example our Discord community, Twitter/X profile, and Instagram page. These services have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any third-party service you visit.
10. Analytics and Focus Metrics
The analytics and metrics features within Focusami — including your streak history, total focus time, session frequency, and focus patterns — are stored on our servers and displayed to you within the app. This data is yours and is used exclusively to provide you with insights about your habits. We may use anonymized, aggregated versions of focus data across all users to improve the product, for example to understand which session lengths lead to better completion rates; this analysis cannot be linked back to any individual user.
11. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the features we offer, or applicable law. When we make changes, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page, and for significant changes that materially affect how we handle your data, we will notify you by email or through a prominent in-app notice before the changes take effect. We encourage you to review this policy periodically; your continued use of Focusami after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact Us
If you have questions, concerns, or requests relating to this Privacy Policy or the way we handle your personal data, contact us by email at support@focusami.com, via our website at https://www.focusami.com, or on Twitter / X at @focusami. We aim to respond to all privacy-related inquiries within 5 business days, and for formal data subject requests under the GDPR or the DPDP Act, we will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law.
